New York City is an amazing city and one of the busiest and largest in the entire world. The Big Apple has much to offer in a wide range of museums, monuments, parks, and attractions. Even with all the excitement and tours offered, you may be surprised to learn that there are many free things to do in the NYC. There are many fun attractions, events and dining places that where payment is unavoidable, but there are a few things that are overlooked in the city that are free or cost very little. In some cases, the free things you find to do in New York City can be more fun than the activities that have an admission fee or require some sort of payment. Staten Island Ferry

The Staten Island Ferry offers an enjoyable and relaxing break from the busy lifestyle that is found in the city and can be a rejuvenating experience. The short 25 minute ferry ride really does help to put your mind at east, and causes you to just take a break and enjoy yourself. The best part about it is that it doesn't cost a dime! At one time the ferry used to cost a small amount of fifty cents per person, but that fee was taken off in 1997. Even though the small cost of fifty cents probably wouldn't be reason to keep you up at night, it is still nice to know that you don't have to pay for something.

Statue of Liberty

The infamous Statue of Liberty is a free visit, but you will be charged the small amount of $3 if you want to take the opportunity to go to the crown and overlook the bay and the city. If you only want to go and stare at the big green monument, then it is a fun free trip that is still quite enjoyable. Again, though, if want a great view, pay the miniscule sum of $3 to go to the top of the Statue of Liberty.

Brooklyn Bridge

Sometimes fresh air is a must, so why not take a stroll out onto one of the most well-known bridges in the States? Next to the Golden Gate Bridge, the Brooklyn Bridge is very well known and a great place to visit. The walk along the bridge offers a feeling of history, and awe of the city while still costing you nothing.

Walk the Highline Park

If you like walking, make sure to go to Highline Park. It is an old abandoned suspension railroad that hasn't been in use since the early 1980's. After its use was discontinued, it was almost torn down but remains still because of protestors, and has now become a National Park.

Shakespeare in the Park

During the summer months, you can see Shakespeare in the Park at Central Park. There are many free things to do in the beautiful Central Park. It is easy to take a walk and just have a fun and relaxing time while you enjoy the peacefulness Central Park has to offer. There are many free things to do in the park as well as things that cost little money.
